Story: A covert team of immortal mercenaries are suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered. Based on a comic book made by Greg Rucka of the same name.
Pros:
Charlize Theron is always fucking fantastic in whatever she does. She commands the screen with such class. She's a talented force of nature.
Kiki Layne (whose I saw a couple of years back in "If Beale Street Could Talk") is a delight (even if I didn't fully buy her as a bad-ass).
The love story between Luca Marinelli ("Waves") & Marwan Kenzari ("Aladdin" live action) which is what truly kept me hooked all the way.
Matthias Schoenaerts with whom I've been in love since "Rust & Bone" (who also stars the gorgeous Marion Cotillard).
Some of the fights have some nice choreography and are actually quite bloody (with hands being cut off and throats slashed).
Harry Melling (of "Harry Potter" fame) makes for a quite despicable (and a little annoying) villain.
Cons:
Probably thirty minutes too long. Considering there's not much meat in these characters bones, which the film could've benefited, a trim in the editing room would've made this feel tighter.
Considering these characters are immortal and not much is done to make them feel any real danger, there's no tension throughout.
If it wasn't for the talented cast, I wouldn't have given two shits for them one dimensional characters.
That damn ending leaving the doors open for a sequel (or franchise?). Do we have to give everything a sequel or a franchise?
The action sequences were not very creative and far too in between (for my likes anyway). I felt like I've seen them done before and better.
There's a reveal at the end that I saw coming since *certain character* was introduced. So I guess not much in the way of surprises.
All in all, is a step in the right direction for Netflix, who lately has been putting out some pretty shitty movies and I see a lot of potential if they ever decide to make a sequel/franchise. There's so many ways this story can evolve and hopefully improve.
P.S. I'm surprised they decided to include a love story between two men in an summer action movie majorly targeted to men.
