Story: After a chance encounter at an anonymous sex party, a boy hunts through the world of a hook-up app to track down the mystery man. Favoring the instant gratification of anonymous, no-strings sexual encounters over meaningful relationships, high schooler Sequin is part of the always logged-on, but never-engaged, hook-up generation. He ghosts ex-partners and remains emotionally unavailable. That's until he finds his way to an anonymous sex party, where a whole new dizzyingly alluring world unfolds before him. In one scene, Sequin connects with a mysterious stranger, but they are separated suddenly. Utterly fixated on this man, Sequin sets off on an exhilarating and perilous mission to track him down.

Sequin In A Blue Room is a story that delves into the hook-up culture in a way that I don't think I've seen before. Like most LGBTTQ+ movies this one is filled with heavy sexual content, but there's a certain honesty flowing through this one's veins that are rarely shown on-screen.

For me, the lead character Sequin a 16-year-old precocious teenager, played by Conor Leach is such an unlikeable lead, and at first, took some time getting used to, but I guess as a teen character he's well written. He's selfish with a careless egocentric attitude. I was later reminded that's how many teenagers act and that gave me a flashback to my younger days.

Conor Leach gives a decent performance and as the ordeal progresses I started liking him and more. Simon Croker who plays one of his possible love interests is likable enough if underused. I would've enjoyed more interaction between the two, but I guess this isn't about their romance. Ed Wightman plays a vengeful pedo creep who constantly stalks our Sequin and eventually becomes a menace, and he does so quite well. What's scary is that guys like him roam the world, destroying lives in the process. I feel like the most relatable character comes in the form of Jeremy Lindsay Taylor as Sequin's father who gives the kid too much freedom but loves and accepts him just the same. I feel like it's refreshing to finally have a father figure who's accepting of his son's lifestyle and sexuality and who never makes him feel ashamed of who he is.

The editing and the look/vibe/feel of the film almost feel trippy. It's a visual experience. As the situation escalates the film becomes tense until a somewhat fitting tender conclusion where our lead learns of the dangers this world has to offer. Sequin In A Blue Room gave me The Neon Demon vibes in a visual sense and I guess they both carry themes of superficiality.

Highly recommended if you're in the mood for lust and bad decisions. 3 words: Hypnotizing, sexy and, trippy.
