Story: The events of one evening take an unexpected turn for the worst for a young boy trying to spy on his babysitter.

*THERE MIGHT BE SOME SPOILERS*

Upon rewatch with a newfound perspective, I actually enjoyed The Babysitter. Unlike the first time where I was somewhat disappointed because I thought it's too stupid. I like my horror gritty and dark, which this is far from.

The Babysitter is a really silly and gory stylish thrill ride with a heart where the funny side overshadows the horror and maybe would've benefited from a bit of seriousness. There's a lot of jokes that work and cool references. Think the self-referential Scream spirit with a little bit of Jennifer's Body sharp humor. Clearly, there's a lot of love for the genre here.

The cast is the main hook, with Samara Weaving (Ready Or Not) stealing the show as Bee, the cool babysitter with diabolic intentions. For me, if not for her this movie wouldn't have worked. Judah Lewis (I See You) is a rootable hero and I'm surprised of what his character goes through considering his age as most movies usually shy away from putting kids in danger. The rest of the cast involves Bella Thorne (The Duff) who I love to hate and Robbie Amell (Code 8), who looks great without a shirt on and he spends half the running time without one.

The Babysitter also has a hip soundtrack that goes well with the hyper editing. This movie oozes personality (even if sometimes an annoying one). Doesn't shy away from the kills either as we get knives in the head, broken necks, heads impaled, bullet wounds. Safe to say the blood flows quite a lot.

In the end, The Babysitter is a movie you do NOT take seriously. The best and only way to enjoy it is to shut your brain off and enjoy the madness onscreen. Also, helps that the pacing is fast and doesn't overstay its welcome as it lasts only an hour and twenty-five (unlike most films nowadays for some damn reason).
