The Alien Report

Story: An alien abductee figures out a clever way to secretly record his own alien encounters revealing telepathic aliens, human hybrids, and the elusive “men-in-black”.

I've been following this project ever since I heard about it last year. I love horror movies involving aliens as they scare the hell out of me, so of course, I just had to give this one a try. Partly crowdfunded and filmed on a micro-budget, this little film tells its story in the vein of The Blair Witch Project meets Unfriended, about a guy constantly being abducted by unidentified entities and filming (quite creatively with different sets of small cameras) those encounters.

First off, there's an unconventional way as to how this is told, and not suitable for epileptics. Didn't take me long to get into the experimental trippy way this unfolded but I can see how mainstream moviegoers might be turned off. I for one found the experience entertaining, refreshing, and clever.

Newcomer Braxton Hale (our lead) was quite believable, likable, easy to root for, and/or relate to. He carries around 80% of the film. This is his story after all. I was very surprised at how well they handled their budget, which apparently was quite modest. The creators managed to make one incredibly polished looking feature. The creature's special make-up effects look so good and even the CGI, which smartly, is kept hidden under shadows for better effect.

For me, this is up there with alien movies like Fire In The Sky (a movie that scared the crap out of me as a kid). The Alien Project is inventive, creepy, and trippy. I really do wish this finds a wider audience because it is truly an experience.
