#Alive

Story: The rapid spread of an unknown infection has left an entire city in ungovernable chaos, but one survivor remains alive in isolation. It is his story.

#Alive has the energy and emotional core of Train To Busan, the intensity of [REC], the claustrophobia of a little italian Z-movie called The End? and the fast running zombies 28 Days Later made so popular back then which work so well in anxiety inducing scenarios. That's not to say this is an unoriginal Z-movie because #Alive gives the genre a twist by giving our protagonist everyday technology to stay alive. Be it drones, cell-phones, computers, etc. Where usually in these type of flicks, technology fails to help our leads, in here is part of what keeps him alive and to me that's one of the aspects that make this work so well. We also get a sense of isolation and a sense of urgency that doesn't let up until the final frame.

Ah-In Yoo (Burning) gets us invested in his flawed character who's trapped in his apartment and does everything he can to stay alive even while the world's turned to chaos. He's very much our only hook and lead for about 2/3 of the story and the actor does a great job. I've never seen the guy before but I'll be keeping an eye out. Shin-Hye Park (Miracle In Cell #7) makes for a fine partner to Ah-In Yoo as they share good chemistry. We eventually get to see their story evolve and you can't help but root for them and hope that everything goes swell in the end.

#Alive is a damn intense, energetic, fast paced and emotional horror movie that takes its time with the few characters we follow. The zombies are mean and scary looking. The blood flows all over the place.

2020 for me has been a great year for horror with this being another fine addition. I think this is one of the best movies this year. #Alive has a little bit of everything thrown into the mix: drama, horror, zombies, survival, and a social commentary about disconnection. I don't really wanna spoil much of this so I'll only say that go watch #Alive when available.
