Story: A socially awkward veterinary assistant with a lazy eye and obsession with perfection descends into depravity after developing a crush on a boy with perfect hands.

May is a little indie that kind of came and went without much recognition outside of the horror world. I bought this little gem randomly at age 12 when there were no streaming services and I got a copy based on only a trailer. 18 years later and this is still one of the best movies I've ever seen. No joke. I still watch it at least twice a year. May is a treat made with a small budget and a big heart.

I fell in love with the character of May, played by the awesome yet underrated Angela Bettis. She plays her as a shy, awkward, disturbed & sweet girl who only craves affection and connection but receives constant rejection. The movie as a whole lot to say about how isolation and loneliness can affect someone. Angela Bettis (Bless The Child) gives heart and soul to the character. To this day one of the best work I've seen on screen. I honestly feel she an Oscar nomination. But horror is a genre still ignored and belittled in the industry.

We also have the sexy and talented Jeremy Sisto (Wrong Turn) playing May's love interest. He's the one who sets the story in motion. Anna Faris (Scary Movie) is also cast in this, playing against type in a more serious role and she's great at it. I wish she'd do more roles like this as she has the funniest lines. Most of the side characters are completely unlikable on purpose.

Everything from the music choices, to the clothing style of May, to a doll named Susie (who I want to own someday), make this a movie with a lot of personality and style that manages to do a lot with little money. The direction and writing are on point. The characters are so well developed. But when the blood starts flowing, that's when May gets real good. I'm not gonna say much as not to spoil the affair but the third act gets quite savage.

In the end May is a sometimes sweet, sometimes brutal sad tale of a lady who just wanted a friend and goes on a downward spiral.
